We’re always being asked about the name of our boat (and all the Australians reading this are smiling).

Well, it’s really easy. You see our home in Australia is in the Blue Mountains, west of Sydney. We’re right in the National Park and see millions of Eucalytus Trees - which in Australia we call GUM TREES.

And, you guessed it, the nut of a a gum tree is called a GUMNUT. And that’s it … Our home afloat, GUMNUTS, a Beneteau Oceanis 48, was launched in 2014 at Caorle in Northern Italy.

This is her story, a record of the boat, where we take her, how she’s built and maintained. It’s also our own story each year as we enjoy the life aboard and document the journey. We’ll cover the highs and the lows, the good and the bad.

A summary of our Sailing Adventures so far …

Where we are (or should be) now …

Wanted to be ‘SPECIAL’

As you can see, we also wanted the boat to look and feel really special. Identifiable. So, we designed and commissioned the outcome you see here today with good help on the way from my friends John in the UK and Ales in Slovenia. Lastly, and one of the pieces I’m most proud of, our wonderful Asymmetric spinnaker from Paolo in Caorle. All in all, the boat really stands out in a crowd.
